How Many Islands?

1000 of them!  This was our annual weekend getaway up in the St. Lawrence Seaway. We decided to bring our SeaDoo this year, along with our double kayak. This proved to be a bit of a challenge at first, but as you probably know, we're always up for a challenge...
Trailer tire blow out!

Wow, did it explode and even bent the fender. Luckily we were close to an exit on I-81 and had a spare with us. 15 minutes later we were back heading north. Fate was with us, as we followed a Walmart truck right to the nearest Walmart in Watertown. We (as in I) were concerned about not having another spare, since #1, if one blew, was the other far behind? #2, our spare was from our utility trailer and a size bigger.

It was all worth the effort though, because this area of the St. Lawrence River is a gorgeous place to explore. And explore we did, after launching at Keewaydin State Park.

Our first sighting of Boldt Castle means we've truly arrived!

We have been watching this poor boat house sink into the water for about 3 years now.

This little island camp had a book exchange out front, called the "Little Free Library." What a novel idea!

We approached the Canadian side with its look-out tower. Everywhere we go, we can see it looming in the distance.

There was a line up of cars waiting to go through Customs as we scooted under the bridge.

Everyone wants to own their own island, and these people had a way to extend their stay on their "piece of the rock."

This narrow waterway  is called The Rift, with the U.S. on one side and Canada on the other.

The current flies through this 'choke point', and a boat waits for us to get through.

Dave says he would you love to own this small island with a shipwreck right in the front yard.

Right up our alley, with lots of nice patina (aka RUST).

Arriving back at the launch ramp, we had to wait while this large power boat was launched. Just before it hit the water, we saw two spare props being handed to the skipper. I bet they had hit something and needed to be hauled out for repairs.

As we found out, it's always good to have spares of everything!

What a fantastic day on the water. We still had more adventures to come...next up was the antique boat show and auction. I have lots of photos to share in the next post.
