KEWL '39

We went to the August classic car show at Guptil's in Latham, and our 1939 Plymouth Road King finally got a chance to 'stretch its legs'. It's been awhile since we have driven it, and we had forgotten about all the great looks and thumbs-up that this car gets every time it goes out.

This car show is put on every second Monday of the summer months, and this month's turnout was huge. Dave estimates between 1000-1100 vehicles were there.
This is only one of the fields. There is also another smaller one and the whole front parking lot of the rollerskating rink and ice cream stand.

Below are a few of our favorites:

A 1952 Ford F-1, half ton pick-up truck.

Huge headlights on this Packard. This car had a flathead straight eight engine.

Here's a nice Javelin for you sister Sue!

Nice flames and up close they were three dimensional.

This Vega station wagon was in great condition, and just looking at a Vega brought back memories for me, since that was my first car.

A Morris Minor Woody Wagon with a V-6 engine.

Last of the pre-war Plymouths, a 1941 coupe.

Nice butt....

...and mean looking front.

These are called Centaur scooters. They fold up into their own luggage.

A Crossley station wagon. It's a half size of a regular car.

A 1949 Jaguar with a chopped top.

Dave thought this would look good going through our trails. It's powered by a Detroit 3-53 diesel (the same engine that's in brother Rick's Dyna Hoe).

I thought this VW Beetle would look better in the trails, or at least in our garage next to my pink kayak!

A 1914 Chevrolet Phaeton and a 1917 Chevrolet 490. Both were barn fresh and driven. The owners were almost as old as the cars.
The cars were completely original, right down to the horse hair coming out of the seats and the puddle of oil underneath them.

This convertible truck parked next to us and it's color scheme was the exact opposite of our '39. They look like they belong together.

The proud owner and still our favorite!
