Rock On

We spent the day in Burlington, Vermont recently and wanted to launch our double kayak to explore the bay. It was a busy day at the Community Sailing Center's dock, but they were kind enough to allow us to splash our kayak.

We headed north past the North Beach Park, with about 50 boats anchored in the lee off the sandy beach.
The beach quickly turned into a rocky shoreline. The Adirondack Mountains in the background were gorgeous (but a bit ominous) in the summer haze.

Then we reached our destination, Lone Rock Point. We did a circumnavigation of this tiny island, but with the waves bouncing off the shore (and rocking us), we felt like we had just rounded Cape Horn!

Looking up on shore we spotted something shiny, and realized there were rings pounded in the rugged overhang for rock climbers.

All along the shoreline we kept seeing these cedar trees growing right out of the rock. How do they continue to survive and grow?

I'd say they were growing between a rock and a hard place, wouldn't you?
