The day after the antique boat show and auction was supposed to be our kayaking day on the St. Lawrence River. Unfortunately we woke at 5 A.M. to torrential rain and wind. Doesn't it figure that they've had drought conditions until that day? It did let up enough for us to take a quick paddle, struggling upwind and up-current. When more rain clouds descended, we turned around and almost flew back to the launch ramp with barely having to put the paddles in the water. They worked better as sails, just holding them in the air. Sorry, I have no photos this time, but we must have looked pretty funny.
We decided to cut our long weekend short and take the long way (there is no direct route) back to Ticonderoga, instead of going home. It was fun going through all the tiny towns and by many lakes, but a long trip...almost 6 hours, with storms hot on our heels.
It may have been an abbreviated trip to the Thousand Islands, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact, weather permitting, we may go back again in a few weeks to continue where we left off.
