Pipe Dream

Actually, it's more like a nightmare. Dave and I have been smelling gas, even when the fuel dock is closed. It ended up being a leak in the pipes that run from the pumps on the dock all the way out back to the gigantic storage tanks.

The fuel supply company has been chasing leaks here for quite some time, so they felt it was time to replace the whole pipeline, which is quite a feat!

This meant that the fuel dock had to close so they could turn off the gas. Then while they were pickaxing the trench, they accidently put a hole in the diesel line too, so everything shut down for several days. Meanwhile the fuel was leaching into the dirt and rocks and into the water next to poor Dandy. Now the pipes are installed, the fuel dock reopened after 3 days, and the workers are actually digging up the contaminated sand and taking it away in these small plastic bags. This will take awhile because they are only using a trowel! They must be afraid they will put another hole in the fiberglass pipe if they use a shovel.

This has certainly been another interesting Bahamian project to watch!
