Concert For A Cause

Here in Hope Town there is a local rock band that has concerts to benefit different causes. This group consists of locals, second home owners, and boaters, and they just like getting together to play and perform. The concerts are free, but whichever charity they benefit, passes around baskets for donations. They really are quite good and this works well, because they play to a packed house each time. Plus the Hope Town Inn and Marina that hosts the events, makes out well with people buying food and drink. It's a win-win situation.

A couple of days ago Jib Sea Sol held a benefit for Hope Town Junior Sailing to help pay the expenses of sending the kids and coaches to the qualifying regattas in Nassau and Freeport. Whoever qualifies goes on to the Opti North American Nationals being held in Nassau and this is a really big deal for everyone involved.

Even one of the coaches, Branden, used to be junior sailor and has won all sorts of regattas and is now also one of the instructors. I guess we've been here too many years (or are getting old 😉), because we remember him as a little kid.

We are starting to get to know several of the other kids since they have been racing in the HTSC dinghy races, which also involves the Optimist prams that they will be racing in at the Nassau regattas. I always make sure I bring cookies to the awards afterwards, and last time I brought and reheated a whole bunch of leftover baked ziti and they were ecstatic. One of the guys hugged me. Poor kids had to sail right through lunchtime.

What a fun afternoon and for a great cause. Even Chris Farren of Combustion Music Festival fame made a guest appearance to sing with the band. As Jib Sea Sol's motto goes, "Rock on!"
