Fundraising Time Of Year

First of all, in case you are wondering, the power came back on about 11 PM last night and has been on ever since. Whew...I hope we are past that hurdle! Now on to more fun things.

This the fundraising time of year with lots of tourists and boaters here. Last Saturday was the Man-O-War School's annual flea market.

It was a hot and windless day and I knew it would be mobbed, so I sent Dave to help our friends Rocky and Joan sell some of their nautical items.

There were all sorts of vendors. Friends Gail and Bruce have gorgeous sea glass jewelry, and a few years ago Dave gave me matching earrings and a necklace for our anniversary.

Kim Rody has some great paintings (of which we have 3) and I especially like her turtles.

Food galore!

These mats and baskets were made by the special needs kids at Every Child Counts.

Today in Hope Town it was the flea market for the Friends of Abaco Animals, who help pay for food, spay and neutering of the feral cats and dogs. This is also a very popular event where you meet everyone you know looking for bargains (and I've never seen so many books for sale before!). Tomorrow is the Hope Town Volunteer Fire and Rescue Fundraising Fair where there will be demonstrations, food, drink and raffles. Without government money coming in to help all these causes, this is THE way to get the funds needed to exist.
