Out Of Our League

Baseball league, that is! In between rain storms, we decided it was time for a Thunderbird day trip and made Cooperstown our destination. Although baseball isn't our 'thing', downtown is so quaint and historical, so we enjoyed walking around. Flowers were blooming everywhere and of course we all know Mickey Mantle!

Even the alleys were inviting...

What an impressive courthouse...

Doubleday Field was interesting and celebrated its 100 year anniversary in 2020.

This bakery's storefront displays sure made us hungry!

Since we feel more comfortable around water, we walked through a small park and down to the Otsego Lake waterfront for lunch.

We thought that this tour boat's slip was an innovative idea. It looked like they haul the boat out on the lift for the winter and it doesn't even have to leave the dock.

Right outside the restaurant, we came across this absolutely gorgeous chromed Honda Rune. The owner was nearby and tried to sell it to us. Dave told him "well maybe, if I was 10 years younger!" I said, "but there's no room for me!" 😉

On our return trip, we drove around the lake and stopped in for a quick look at Glimmerglass Sate Park. There is a huge beach and picnic area (300 picnic tables available!), along with a campground. Plus this is the home of the oldest wooden covered bridge in the United States, built in 1825.

You can click on the photo above and read a bit of the history. It was another fun day and we made it back home before more stormy weather arrived. With our crazy weather pattern we have been in, we think that more short day trips may be in our future.
