Fair Time

This time of year is fair time in my communities, but one of the best is the Altamont Fair. Yesterday just happened to be seniors free day so how could we resist not going? There was so much to see and do that we spent over 6 hours exploring and taking in the entertainment. We arrived before the rides were even open...

A walk through the farm equipment building was quite humorous as we kept looking and saying, "oh, we have this, and this, and that!"

There was an antique/classic car building with some interesting vehicles in it, including a Bugatti and the gorgeous '34 Ford.

There were numerous buildings with 4H projects, vendors, horses, goats, sheep, rabbits, chickens, ducks, etc., but it is amazing to get up close to the enormous cows and cattle.

Then there were more shows than I ever remember, all spaced and timed perfectly so you can see it all...and we did!

The Royal Hanneford Circus under the Big Top Tent had several different acts, all performed by the same people that changed characters.

Two motorcyclists in the cage...

The Fearless Flores Family was featured on America's Got Talent. This was the only act I could get a photo of.

They also did the motorcycle death defying cage with the father and 16 yr. old son on bikes, along with the mother standing in the middle giving them high fives as they went around her! Plus they started with the 8yr. old daughter who goes around the cage on her dirt bike.

Then it was on to the Dynamo Dogs, which were rescue dogs doing amazing tricks. This included the standard poodle jumping over the high hurdles like it was nothing and the always intense Australian Shepherds, along with other dogs, large and small.

The barnyard animal races were a bit silly and over way to quick to get good photos. There were the cutest little pigs, but a couple wanted to stop and dig in the dirt to find food instead of race.

However the ducks (and a goose) weren't too sure where to go and needed a bit of guidance and encouragement. It was good to see how the owners got the kids involved as both cheerleaders and ringing the bell to start the races.

Last, but certainly not least, was the Jay Mattioli Magic Show. We have been really into watching magic acts on TV, so seeing it in person was great. Among many different tricks, he split himself in half and also levitated (and yes he did let go over the poles).

So why do they call it a 'Fair'? This year's Altamont Fair should be a called 'Fantastic'!
