More Mountains

We are really enjoying our recent day trips. Yesterday we started out by going to Jiminy Peak for lunch at their great restaurant at the base of the ski area. Once fall is here we would like to come back and go on the new mountain roller coaster and the older traditional alpine slides. We had intended on going up the chair lift to the top but unfortunately it wasn't running that day, most likely since it was a quiet weekday.

We then hopped back in the Thunderbird (what a perfect convertible day!) and headed up Mt. Greylock. It is 6+ miles to the 3491 ft. summit with exciting hairpin turns. This preservation encompasses 12,500 acres and is the tallest mountain in Massachusetts. It was a fairly hazy day, but the view was still pretty.

This is the rustic shelter where hikers can stay for the night and is part of the Appalachian Trail.

The War Memorial Tower is so picturesque, both inside and out (the tile ceiling is amazing).

We decided to hike up the spiral staircase and it was well worth the effort with the 360 degree view.

Thankfully it was totally enclosed with windows, so no problem with my fear of heights.

The Bascom Lodge/Visitors Center has a small restaurant and rooms to rent out if anyone would rather do that than stay in the shelter. We thought it would be a great place for a wedding!

Another favorite annual trek and I know we will be back...
