The Storm We Couldn't Pronounce

We were a little nervous when Hurricane Isaias headed for the Bahamas and then the Treasure Coast, but little did we realize at the time that this storm would barely affect these areas, but would impact us up north! Luckily Isaias was downgraded to a tropical storm and stayed offshore Florida, but was also far enough away from Abaco not to cause any more widespread damage following last September 1st's Hurricane Dorian. When the storm made its way up to us in upstate New York, it brought torrential rains and we ended up with 4" in the gauge. I think that the goldfish were ready to swim out of the pond.
It made a witches' brew in our iron cauldron and overflowed our driveway dry well.

The winds gusted to 50 mph for an hour or two from every direction and all our windows in the house were wet. We watched helplessly as our young black walnut tree was blown back and forth, eventually being uprooted. When the storm passed, we picked up all the fallen branches and staked the tree up straight, hoping it will survive (it was given to us by a past motorcycle shop customer who passed away this year).

Our power went off also, but we were one of the lucky ones in the area that got it back in service within a couple of hours. Many people were still in the dark the next day. What a relief to see this beautiful horizon to horizon rainbow once the storm passed and continued on its way north.

The following day the weather was perfect with sun and a blue sky, almost like nothing had ever happened...except for the downed trees in the trails in the woods that Dave moved with the New Holland. We headed up to Ti to make sure everything was okay up there and surprisingly there were very few branches down. Finally our lawn is green again with the much needed rain though. Now we are back to summer fun or at least the new normal summer fun!

Footnote: Blogger has changed their format and it is not allowing me to center the photos. I am working on reverting back to the old format but that also will not let me center the photos tonight.
