Monumental Moment

Today was the day that my family's Farmall Cub tractor saw the light of day for the first time in probably 50 years! When we were kids, we used to ride on the back as my father or uncle used to plow our house and funeral business next door. This was a very special white model called a demonstrator that the dealers had for only one year...1950. Each dealer got one white tractor that was used as a demo for customers to try out. My grandfather bought his new and insisted that it be the white one and refused to buy the usual red model.

When my cousin took over the business, he inherited the tractor, which had been sitting in the barn unused due to some kind of an engine failure. We have been wanting to acquire this nostalgic piece of my history and finally we agreed on a price and the dream has come true.

First Dave had to inflate the flat tires with his portable compressor.

We also had to pry up the snow plow and tie it to the frame so it would go onto the trailer.

We pushed and used a manual winch to get in onto the trailer.

Dave made sure it was secure and wouldn't roll. The whole process took about an hour and was easier than expected.

Once we got it back to our house and garage, Dave used the New Holland to get the trailer lined up and the tractor came off quite easily. A big plus was that the brakes actually worked, so it didn't go out of control down the ramps. The old and the new...

Now Dave will look to see what is involved in getting the engine running again. I have a feeling that I may not see him for awhile. 😉 I will keep you posted on the prognosis and project progress. What a sight it will be at the shows!
